Welcome to my blog. I am Zuri-Starr, I was born in Berkeley, California and raised in Vallejo, California. After Graduating High School I attended Dillard University where I received my Bachelors of Science in Sociology and Social Welfare. During my Senior Year at Dillard University, my home and University was devastated by Hurricane Katrina on August 29, 2005. I moved to Washington, D.C. and Attended Bowie State University and worked at The Human Rights Campaign. I returned to New Orleans to complete my studies while living in The Hilton Hotel Riverside. After Graduation July 1, 2006, I decided to take a year off for a mental break before continuing my education. I returned home to Vallejo, California to rejuvenate and start the healing process.
In August of 2007, I moved to Atlanta, Georgia to pursue my passion as a clinical social worker and attend Clark Atlanta University. I graduated with my Masters in Social Work on May 17, 2009, and started my Career working at Aniz Inc as a mental health therapist for clients living with HIV. While living in Atlanta I became a Clinician, an Executive Pastor at the City of Champions Full Gospel Church and a Mother.
After seven years in Atlanta, I returned home to California to be closer to my family while raising my newborn baby. My first two years home had many triumphs, some downfalls, and few pitfalls. After struggling with depression, anxiety, postpartum depression, unemployment, and poverty I keep pursuing my dreams to be a Clinical Social Worker in California. I was finally able to start working as an Associate Clinical Social Worker for Foster Children. I am a single mother of two boys that I love very much and I am here to inspire you to push yourself to the next level to live your best life, no matter what.
